Everything you need to know!

Newborn and Motherhood Lifestyle Photos

I take a lifestyle approach to newborn sessions, meaning I capture (guided) candid photos of you and your partner (and siblings if there are any) interacting with your baby in your own environment. These sessions always include detail shots of baby's nursery. I like my newborn sessions to tell a story of baby's first few days/weeks at home. You rocking baby, changing baby, even feeding baby.

*If you are comfortable with nursing photos, then I always capture a few tasteful photos of that special time.* So while I will absolutely take some posed photos of just baby, they will not be taken in a studio style with flash, backdrops and props. Unless you have a particular prop you'd like to use. I've put babies in baskets, bookshelves, pianos (safely!) etc., but these were all things in the home and were not props I brought with me.

Newborn sessions are taken in the comfort of your own home. We will take photos in the nursery and/or the areas of your home with the most natural light. Lighting is the most important factor and rooms with lots of windows equal photos with beautiful light. My newborn sessions usually take place when baby is around 1 - 2 weeks old (this way they are still very sleepy and pliable). However, I've also taken newborn photos at 4 days old, and 8 weeks old. No matter what, we can make it work!

You will receive a Style Guide to help you with coordinating not only baby’s outfit but the rest of the family as well.

These sessions include around 50+ high resolution digital images which you can download directly from your personalized online gallery.

HOW IT WORKS

Most of my mamas reach out about 5 months before their due date. I will add you to the month's calendar and know that it could be a few weeks before or after your due date.

01. INQUIRE

I do require a $100 retainer to officially reserve your date. The remainder is due on the day of your portrait session. Once you're all set, I will send out a detailed email with all of the information for our session, including a style guide to help you with putting together outfits.

Please know that you have nothing to stress about. I know you will be deliriously tired and the house will be a mess. You only need to worry about the areas of your home that will be photographed. Usually this is the primary bedroom, and nursery. Do not clean your kitchen or bathroom for me.

03. SESSION DAY

I work really hard to have these sessions out within 1-2 weeks as I know many people are waiting to send out birth announcements.

I learned from personal experience that it doesn't matter how beautiful a photo is if you don't like what YOU look like in the photo. I've taken several posing courses and I will make sure to pose you in order to capture your most flattering angles.

All of my clients receive a Style Guide after booking their session. It's filled with detailed information about coordinating outfits, as well as picture examples and store recommendations.

The editing process is my favorite part, and I spend so much time making sure your photos are perfect. That means removing people, trashcans and signs in the background, making sure your skin looks amazing, your arms look slim, and any photo in the gallery is ready to frame on the wall of your home.

Attention to Detail

What's inside your camera bag?

F.A.Q.'S

I shoot with a Canon R6 Mark II (which has two memory card slots so a back-up is always recorded) and my back-up camera is a Canon 5D Mark IV. My primary lens is the 50 1.2L (my baby!) which vary rarely ever comes off of my camera but when I do reach for another lens -- it would be the Sigma 85 1.4, Sigma Art 35 1.4, Canon 100L.

How long will it take to get my photos?

Portrait sessions take about 1-2 weeks.

Do you edit all of the photos?

Absolutely! I go through every image and adjust for crop, exposure, and color correct. I also do very light re-touching if needed.

Do you charge a travel fee?

I do charge a travel fee for locations that are farther than 30 minutes from the Carlsbad area. This means that your portrait session includes an hour of driving time (30 minutes each way) I charge $100 for each additional hour of driving. So if we are 1.5 hours apart and you'd like me to travel to your city for our shoot, that would be a total of 3 hours of driving (which would be an additional $200 travel fee since a one hour round trip is included). Unfortunately, living in Southern California I have to go by the amount of hours and not the amount of miles.

Are you insured?

Yes, absolutely!

Do you offer mini sessions?

I currently only offer mini sessions to new clients during the fall season. I will typically have 2-3 designated dates and will fit about 6 families on each date. These sessions are 30 minutes in length and include about 30 images. I usually announce the dates on social media in August.

Do you offer any discounts for repeat clients?

Yes! I absolutely want my clients to feel as loved and valued as they are. My repeat clients currently get $50 off portrait sessions.
